According to the latest Bitglass Cloud Adoption Report, global cloud adoption in 2018 reached an all-time high of 81%, measured by enterprise usage of major cloud productivity platforms, with Microsoft’s Office 365 emerging as the leader of the pack.

Bitglass analysed software usage of more than 135 000 companies across the world and found that Office 365 beat out competing cloud productivity platforms like Google’s G Suite by a wide margin. Of the 135 000 companies that were analysed, 56.3% used Office 365 compared to just 24.8% for G Suite and 13.8% for Amazon’s AWS, with technology (21.5%), education (19.7%) and media (15.3%) companies leading the global trend.

Commenting on the report, Bitglass Chief Marketing Officer Rich Campagna remarked that it was no surprise overall cloud adoption continues to skyrocket. “Organisations worldwide have come to trust platforms like Office 365 and AWS as vendors continue to bolster security and feature sets.”

In terms of adding feature sets that appeal to enterprise users, Microsoft recently announced an extension to their partnership with Adobe, which will see Adobe PDF services integrated into Office 365. These services will allow commercial users of Office 365 to convert documents into PDF format without affecting fonts or formatting. Users can combine various file types into a single PDF for archiving or distribution, and convert PDFs into editable Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents online, even from their mobile devices. Adobe announced that it will also be integrating PDF services into OneDrive and SharePoint.

Ashley Still, Vice President and GM of Digital Media at Adobe said, “As leaders in document and productivity software, Adobe and Microsoft are integrating best-in-class cloud services like Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Adobe Sign and now Adobe Acrobat DC to meet the needs of today’s agile and rapidly evolving workforce.”

In the enterprise world, it seems Microsoft is the clear preferred provider, especially for larger organisations, and this trend doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
